My Story

Avan Vora

I'm a Data Science & Analytics Mentor and a Senior Analytics Manager with 10 years of industry experience across the US & India. I have been in both Individual Contributor as well as Leadership roles throughout my career.

I have enjoyed all aspects of my career in data - from getting hands-on with data and creating multi-million dollar impact with my projects to providing guidance and mentorship to my team of analysts.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer turned Data guy. I graduated with a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering in 2012. I was in my third year of engineering when I realized I was not really into machines. That is when I decided to pursue my Masters in the US. I graduated with an MS from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, USA in 2013.

I started my career in 2014 as a Marketing Data Analyst at a small consulting company in Boston. I then did a couple of years of consulting with McKinsey, before taking up a managerial role at Wayfair. As a Senior Analytics Manager, apart from the day-to-day of an analytics job, I really enjoyed mentoring and coaching people and decided that at some point in the future, I would pursue teaching in some capacity.

In 2021, I moved back to India to be closer to my family. I led Product Analytics at BrowserStack until 2023 when I decided to give teaching a shot.

I taught advanced SQL for a year and mentored people trying to break into data. I'm both fortunate and grateful to have received a lot of love from my students and I'm proud of the impact I have created on 250+ students. These experiences have left me wanting to do a lot more!

From my stint in teaching, I realized there is a gap between what is taught in courses and what is required in the industry. My goal is to use my experience and bridge this gap by teaching actual skills needed to build a successful data career. I believe education can be life-changing and through this initiative, I hope to provide quality data education.

I hope you enjoy learning from me as much as I enjoy teaching! Happy Learning!
